Qatar Short Race and Main Event Grid Setting: Live Coverage

Opening Notes

Our correspondent is about to begin to guide you through today's sprint race (2pm GMT) and qualifying (18:00 GMT).

Real-Time Updates

Warm-Up Lap Period

The warm-up lap has started.

Circuit Details

There are nineteen laps around the lengthiest track in F1, the commentator informs us.

Final Moments

The last moments is underway.

Driver Situation

One point in Verstappen's favour: his fellow driver Tsunoda is in front of him by one place. It's improbable to interfere with Red Bull's main man.

Media Conversations

Sky's internal discussion currently: Gary Neville is with Mercedes.

Karun Chandhok is looking forward to 2026, interviewing Adrian Newey about his promotion to the team lead role.

Starting Positions

There are only sixteen vehicles on the grid. It was another poor grid-setting session for Lewis Hamilton: after coming twentieth and final in the previous race, leading to an eighth position in the main race, he failed to make it out of the first qualifying segment once more on the previous day. Ferrari have as a result made changes to his car configuration and so he begins from the pit lane.

The team's Lance Stroll and the Alpine duo of Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto are all starting from the same position.

Racer Statements

"We'll use the learning for tomorrow," states Hadjar, starting eleventh. There will be a lot of that.

Constructors' Championship

It's not all about the individual championship: The team have run away with the constructors' gong but the team, with a 40-point lead over Red Bull, will be hoping to seal second place this weekend. Russell can help them achieve that from the front row, and Antonelli will start just behind the leader.

Past Performance

Oscar Piastri was victorious then – as he managed last year, as well. McLaren's Australian is attempting a third consecutive win.

Sprint Race Value

Right, just over 20 minutes to go till the sprint race gets under way. Unless something goes wrong, it's greatest value is as an indication of future events, instead of highly important in its itself, with only eight points available to the victor. Mind you, second place here was enough for Verstappen to claim the title two years ago.

Max Verstappen claimed the championship following his teammate's accident of Qatar GP sprint race.
